You may also know a roofline loft conversion as a velux conversion – although ‘roofline’ makes much more sense. Essentially, the roof remains unchanged with a roofline conversion, so it’s more a case of making the space within your existing loft more accessible. Although velux windows are usually installed (hence the alternative name ‘velux’ conversion), to add light into the new room, there is often very little structural work to complete with this type of loft conversion.
Hence, it is incredibly popular and can be completed relatively quickly. As you’ll see below, it is ideal for larger and detached properties – so, if you already have loft space but can’t currently use it, a roofline conversion could be the ideal solution for your property.
However, that doesn’t mean to say that your options are limited when it comes to what you can do with your roofline loft conversion. We find that, with larger properties in particular, the living solutions that a roofline conversion can provide are vast. Some homeowners have long dreamed of an art or design studio to work in, for both business and pleasure, while growing children adore the idea of relocating from a shared bedroom to a lofty room all of their own.
If you have the space, an en-suite bathroom makes the loft of your home feel like an apartment – ideal for older children who are desperate for a little more independence but aren’t quite ready to move out entirely. Please note that planning permission usually isn’t required with a roofline conversion.
Loft and attic conversions can actually increase the value of a home. Although a roofline conversion doesn’t necessarily involve adding an extra bedroom, it will add storage space, and both your roof and the loft will be efficiently insulated when the project is complete. So, if you do decide to move home in the future, you may see a little extra value in your property – and have one less thing to worry about when you come to sell.
In contrast a damaged roof, or poorly insulated loft, can actually impact the value of a home when somebody comes to assess its value. During our inspection of your existing loft space, we’ll be able to identify any issues regarding your roof or insulation – potentially saving you a good deal of cash on your heating bills in the future.
